Substantial amount of scientific work established that exposure to acute psychological stress instantly triggers physiological and affective responses, expressed as reduced heart rate variability (HRV), reduced positive affect and increased negative affect. Interestingly, elevated but also blunted physiological reactivity during stress have been associated with enhanced affective responses to stress, and thus putative physiological markers of stress vulnerability have yet to be identified. We hypothesized that lack of physiological recovery after relief from acute stress may better depict stress vulnerability.
