Habituation is the progressive decline in responses to repeated exposure to predictable,

and these are disrupted in disorders such as PTSD. We previously identified the posterior
paraventricular thalamic nucleus (pPVT) as crucial in regulating habituation. Here,
we investigated the activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein (Arc), an immediate
early gene that promotes synaptic and structural plasticity underlying learning and
memory, in the regulation of habituation.
