Studies suggest that heightened inflammation contributes to major depressive disorder
(MDD) pathogenesis. Using chronic social defeat stress (CSDS)—a mouse model for the
study of individual differences in depression sensitivity—we found breakdown of the
endothelial barrier leading to interleukin 6 infiltration and to increased stress
susceptibility. However, there is a limited understanding of the mechanisms promoting
immune infiltration.
